Looking for tools to assist with smart phone web development, I came across jGestures at jgestures.codeplex.com. It's a handy little tool that allows you to register all kinds of touch events for supported devices. It uses jQuery's awesome event-handling functions. Unfortunately it seems that Android doesn't register multi-touch events correctly, so it can really only do single-touch swipe gestures and dragging. (I haven't tried an ICS device, so if you have one, please let me know the results in the comments) Read More...

Amazon Kindle Fire
Amazon recently released the newest in their Kindle series, the Kindle Fire. The Fire runs a heavily modified version of the Android operating system, and is designed to deliver Amazon and Web content quickly and conveniently to the user. An important bit of information here is that the Kindle Fire is a tablet that runs Android, but it's not an Android tablet in the sense that one might assume. Read More...
Ice Cream Sandwich Features
Android 4.0, known as Ice Cream Sandwich, is due to be released in November. Google names the major versions of Android after desserts in alphabetical order - ICS follows after tablet-only Honeycomb, and Gingerbread, Froyo, Eclaire, and so on. The Competition is Heating Up Between Google and Microsoft
We did a review on Windows Live Skydrive in October. One of the main features Microsoft offers is the ability to create, edit and store Office docs for free online via the browser. It also allows you to view the documents on your web-enabled mobile phone. As some of you know, Google's own Google Docs is one of Microsoft's biggest rivals, and it has been on the market long before SkyDrive and has a large group of faithful followers including ourselves. A brief overview of the Android platform for developers
Recently I was studying some finer points of application development on the Andriod platform, and I was inspired to share some basic information with those who may be unfamiliar with the system. The first thing you need to know about Android applications is that they aren't like what most people think of as applications. On most platforms, desktop computer operating systems included, an application has a single entry point. So you "start" the application, and it runs code from a specific place. Usually this is in the form of a main() function. Read More...
